The Quest for 10K

For those of you who know me well, you know that sports have never really been my forte. Sure, I love to watch sports and cheer from the sidelines, but actually participating in them? They just are not something I've ever been particularly good at. That being said, this news may come as a bit of a shock...prepare yourself!

I have taken up running and am progressively getting better and better at it. Would I call myself an "athlete?" Maybe not a full-fledged athlete but perhaps an "Athlete Light." I've been running the 5K distance for awhile now and have decided to go ahead and challenge myself further and begin training for a 10K (or about 6.2 miles). I know...this sounds nothing at all like me but it's true! When I started running, it was hard for me to go ten minutes without feeling like I might die. I am now running forty minutes and feeling great!

It's risky putting this up on our blog...now everyone will expect me to actually get through the training and run a 10K. That's scary...but I think it is what I will need to stay motivated. The training program I am using should have me running a 10K distance within next 7 weeks. However, we are going on our cruise in early April so, while I do intend to run on the ship, I'm not sure I'll be as committed to the training as I should be. My goal is to be ready for the 10K run by mid-June.

Chris has started running with me on occasion and he is also working towards increasing his distance. He just started up over the last week or two so he will need awhile to adjust to the rigors of running.

Check back for progress updates!
